Safety is one of CopperDog 150’s biggest concerns race weekend and a well-prepared volunteer base is one of their most important resources. CopperDog event planners put a lot of time and energy into planning a safe event, but ultimately it’s the volunteers in the field that hold the lines who keep everyone safe. To help ensure CopperDog volunteers are ready, the race organization provides an annual All Volunteer training session a week before the race at the CLK Schools in Calumet. The training session will be interesting and fun with about 45 minutes of indoor training, covering numerous scenarios that may be encountered on the trail, and 45 minutes of training outdoors working with a musher and dog team. CopperDog strongly encourages all volunteers and anyone from the general public who wants to learn the ins and outs of a musher's sled and the dog team that pulls it; wants to learn the do's and don'ts of working with sled-dogs; wants to learn about race safety and communication procedures; and wants to work hands-on with a couple of dog teams to gain experience to attend this volunteer training session.
