In 1968, upon his return from the service was the beginning of a great company when he purchased his first store in Brillion, Wisconsin.

Jim was fortunate to see that the grocery world was changing by leaps and bounds, not only structurally but technologically as well. The store in Sturgeon Bay brought in a new concept of a warehouse style store that brought LOW PRICES to the area. Currently, Tadych’s has six locations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Murder Mystery Casting Call

Calling All Actors! Casting Call for Murder Mystery Actors

Join us for casting call tryouts as we search for volunteer actors to play the main characters in an interactive, themed murder mystery dinner event. These type of events offer lots of freedom for actors to improvise, interact with the audience, and truely become the character they are portraying. Are you up for a new challenge?

The event is a fundraiser for KYP and performance date is tentatively scheduled in March.

CASTING CALL TRYOUTS
Date: January 11, 2023
Time: 5-7 p.m.
Location: Lakeshore Center, Community Room 123
600 E Lakeshore Drive, Houghton, MI

The Characters (or Suspects)

Harold Logan: The owner of the Pineapple Haven Hotel (it was part of his divorce settlement). His marriage to Stella Capwell was a big mistake but she was filthy rich.

Bambi Bianca: Harold’s girlfriend, or as she says, fiancée. An ex-con turned mud wrestler. She’ll use anybody and everybody if it works to her advantage.

Stella Capwell: Harold's miserable & mean ex-wife from NY. She now realizes she was a bit too generous in giving this hotel to Harold.

Mrs. Abigail Wiggins: She claims to be an author, psychic and expert on island voodoo. Typically found wearing a muumuu, bright colors, and a scarf around her head.

Donny Wo: A lounge singer. Harold hired him to sing at the event.

Thomas Q. Magnus: A private eye. He and Abigail are chums and he’s here at her request because of her premonitions.

Rebel Hanukkaiiaihani: He’s Harold's business partner. When Harold makes money, Rebel makes money and vice versa.

Ruth Astoria: Stella's daughter from her first marriage. A snotty little witch with a bad attitude. She hates her mother, well, because she’s her over-bearing mother. She also has a love/hate relationship with Harold. Described as modern, hip and sexy.

Sadie Summer: Abigail’s new very enthusiastic assistant who is in “psychic” training.

Chyna Doll: Rebel’s girlfriend. She, like Bambi, is a champion mud wrestler who will challenge anyone who rubs her the wrong way to a wrestling match.

Robert: Stella’s driver and generally abused go-fer. Robert’s in love with her, being the masochist that he is, so he does her bidding immediately and without question.

Mack and Matilda Titmouse: They won a free vacation to the Pineapple Haven hotel all the way from the U.P.! They’re working class types who look like the tourists. They have never traveled far from their small home town in Michigan and are beside themselves with exuberant touristy joy.

Keweenaw Holiday Hoopla

Mark your calendar and join us on Thursday, December 8, 2022 for the eighth annual collaborative holiday celebration with a cause! There will also be an online auction that can be accessed starting Friday, December 2 and ending at the event at 9PM on Thursday, December 8, 2022. BIDDING CAN BE DONE ONLINE or IN-PERSON the night of the event at https://www.biddingowl.com/CTESCHOLARSHIPS. This year’s auction will have over 50+ items including several unique items crafted by the CCISD and high school CTE students.

The Portage Health Foundation-KEDA CTE scholarship program ensures that one graduating senior from each of the high schools in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties and the Horizons High School has available a $1,000 scholarship to pursue a certificate, one- or two-year career technical education program. PHF has committed to managing and providing the scholarships and KEDA has committed to continue to raise funds annually for the education scholarship endowment that PHF has established.

It is because of the generosity of all the businesses in Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw Counties that we can continue to offer these scholarships. Students and parents are encouraged to contact their respective high school, the Portage Health Foundation or KEDA for more information on the scholarship program and an application,” said Jeff Ratcliffe, Executive Director of KEDA.

“This event is a great opportunity to come together and celebrate the season and our community. Attendees will have the opportunity to capture some memories at KYP’s holiday photo booth, enjoy tasty hors d’oeuvres, listen to music, and connect with local community members,” says, Katie Schlief, of the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce. “It’s great to see the community support of this event over the years and the commitment to raising funds to support local trades scholarships.”

The Bonfire has agreed to host the fundraiser again this year and the event will feature delicious appetizers, and desserts. The event will be held in the upper-level bar and a cash bar will be available.

Live music throughout the night, sponsored by the Portage Health Foundation.
